Bespoke Garden Lighting for Merseyside Gardens
Gardens across Merseyside vary enormously, from contemporary urban courtyards and established suburban gardens to larger residential properties and gardens influenced by the region's coastal setting. Each presents different opportunities after dark, which is why we don't believe in applying the same lighting layout to every project.
At Kirman Design, we consider the architecture of your property, the scale and structure of the garden, how you use your outdoor space and which features deserve attention after sunset. We also consider important views from inside the house, particularly where large windows, extensions or glazed doors create a strong visual connection between the home and garden.
We then develop a bespoke lighting scheme specifically for your Merseyside garden, enhancing its planting, architecture and landscape features without making the space feel excessively bright or overlit.
Your garden lighting design may include:
Uplighting for mature and specimen trees
Subtle lighting amongst borders and architectural planting
Recessed lighting within steps, walls and paving
Pathway, driveway and entrance lighting
Discreet lighting beneath seating, benches and raised planters
Feature lighting for water features, sculptures and focal points
Patio, terrace, pergola and outdoor kitchen lighting
Wall washing and grazing to reveal architectural materials and textures
Smart lighting controls and automated schedules
In more compact urban and suburban gardens, lighting can be used strategically to create a greater sense of depth. Illuminating selected planting or a specimen tree draws the eye into the garden while allowing boundaries and less attractive areas to recede into darkness.
Larger established gardens provide opportunities for a more layered approach. Carefully illuminated trees, planting and focal points at different distances from the house can create a sequence of views through the landscape rather than concentrating all the light around the immediate patio or terrace.
For properties in more exposed parts of Merseyside, particularly those closer to the coast, the location and specification of exterior fittings may also require additional consideration. Appropriate materials and high-quality fittings can help ensure that the lighting scheme is suited to its environment as well as the design of the garden.
The aim isn't simply to make your Merseyside garden brighter.
By carefully balancing light with areas of shadow, we can create atmosphere, reveal planting and architectural features and make outdoor spaces more inviting after sunset.
The result is a garden that remains connected to your home after dark and develops a completely different character as evening arrives.

Care at Every Stage
Good paving depends as much on what is beneath the surface as what can be seen when the work is complete.
Every paving installation begins with careful preparation, as the quality of the finished surface depends on what lies beneath. The existing ground is excavated to the correct depth before a robust sub-base is installed and thoroughly compacted to provide a stable foundation. Drainage falls are then accurately established to ensure rainwater is directed away from buildings and does not collect on the paved surface. A suitable bedding layer is prepared before each paving slab is carefully laid, aligned and levelled to achieve consistent joint widths and precise detailing. Once the paving has been installed, the joints are filled with an appropriate jointing material, the surface is thoroughly cleaned, and every aspect of the installation is inspected to ensure it meets our exacting standards.
At Kirman Design, attention to detail at every stage of the process ensures that every patio and paved area is not only visually stunning but also built to deliver exceptional strength, durability and long-term performance. Kirman Design will advise on your hedging needs. Smart Garden Lighting
Smart controls make it easier to adjust your garden lighting to suit different occasions.
Depending on the chosen system, your lighting may be controlled through an app, wireless switches, timers, sensors or voice-controlled devices. Separate lighting zones can be created for different parts of the garden, allowing you to adjust brightness, colour or timing independently.
You may choose a soft everyday setting, brighter lighting for entertaining or a more dramatic scheme for special occasions.
Automated schedules can also ensure your garden lighting switches on and off at appropriate times without requiring daily adjustment.

Lighting for New and Existing Gardens
Garden lighting can be incorporated into a completely new garden design or installed within an existing outdoor space.
Planning lighting during a landscaping project usually provides the greatest flexibility, as cables and fittings can be integrated before paving, planting and other finishes are completed.
However, many existing gardens can also be successfully upgraded. We will assess access, existing features and suitable cable routes before recommending the most practical installation method.
Why Choose Kirman Design?
Kirman Design creates high-quality gardens in which every detail is carefully considered.
Our experience in garden design, landscaping, planting and construction means that we understand how lighting should work with the wider garden rather than being treated as an afterthought.

Our approach combines:
Bespoke garden lighting design

Careful and discreet installation
Smart lighting options
Attention to detail

“We love our new outdoor space! We contacted Kirman as we wanted their design expertise on how to make the most of an unloved area of garden. The designs were great and the in person meetings were helpful and informative. The team on site during the build were so amazing. We are so pleased with the finished result! Kirman also worked seamlessly with another contractor, who were installing an outdoor office. Thank you!”
