Garden Lighting FAQs
Garden lighting can help you use your outdoor space after dark, highlight planting and architectural features, and make paths and seating areas easier to navigate. Landscaping Emporium offers a selected range of Philips Hue outdoor lights, including spotlights, bollards and Festavia string lights, with professional installation available on selected packs and in listed areas.
Browse our garden lighting collection or read the answers below to help plan your lighting.
Do I need an electrician to install garden lights?
It depends on the product and the work involved. Some garden lighting systems use low-voltage outdoor components, but the power supply still needs to be connected and positioned according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
If your installation needs a new outdoor socket or other electrical work, this should be carried out by a suitably qualified, registered electrical installer. For selected lighting packs, Landscaping Emporium’s installation information states that a partner registered electrical installer can fit a socket if one is required. Check the specific product listing and installation details before ordering.
How long is the warranty on garden lights?
Warranty terms vary by product and manufacturer. Please check the product page and the manufacturer’s documentation for the warranty that applies to the lights, power supply and accessories you are considering.
If you cannot find the warranty information, contact us before ordering and include the product name or link. We can help direct you to the relevant details.
Do I need an outdoor socket for garden lighting?
The answer depends on the lighting system, the available power supply and where the lights will be installed. Some of our installed starter packs include outdoor cables and a weatherproof box; the exact contents vary by product.
If a suitable outdoor socket is not already available, additional electrical work may be needed. Tell us about your existing outdoor power supply when you enquire. Any new socket or mains electrical work should be completed by a suitably qualified, registered electrical installer.
Do Philips Hue garden lights need a bridge?
Some Philips Hue garden lighting packs include a Hue Bridge. Check the product listing to see what is included, as additional lights and starter packs may have different contents.
The bridge and app setup requirements depend on the system and the way you want to control your lights. Read the product details and manufacturer instructions before purchase. Selected installed packs from Landscaping Emporium include setup of the Philips Hue app on two phones as part of the installation.
Can I add more lights later?
Many lighting systems allow additional compatible lights or accessories to be added, but compatibility depends on the product, the power supply and the system’s limits. Before buying extra lights, check that they are suitable for your existing setup and that the cables and connectors are compatible.
Our garden lighting collection includes starter packs and additional units. If you are unsure which products work together, contact us with the details of your existing lights.
What types of garden lights are available?
The current collection includes several types of Philips Hue outdoor lighting:
Spotlights can be aimed at trees, planting, walls or other garden features.
Bollard lights can help define paths and edges, or add gentle light near seating areas.
String lights can create a softer atmosphere around patios, pergolas and outdoor dining spaces.
The right option depends on the size and layout of your garden, the effect you want and the location of suitable power. Browse the available garden lights to compare current products and pack details.
Where should garden lights be positioned?
Start by deciding what the lighting needs to do. You might want to make a route easier to see, draw attention to a tree or planting bed, or create a comfortable atmosphere around a seating area.
Consider the view from inside the house as well as from the garden. Avoid placing bright lights where they shine directly into windows or cause glare on paths and seating areas. For a balanced result, use light to reveal selected features rather than lighting every part of the garden equally.
For a larger or more complex space, a lighting plan can help you consider fixture positions, cable routes, power access and how the garden will look after dark.
Do you offer garden lighting installation?
Professional installation is available with selected lighting starter packs. The product page explains what is included, such as the lights, cables, accessories and installation.
Installation availability depends on the product and postcode. The current listings give the areas covered for each installed pack. If your postcode is outside the listed area, contact us before placing an order so we can check whether installation may be possible.
Explore garden lighting products with installation and check the individual product details for inclusions and coverage.
Can I buy garden lights without installation?
Some products are listed as additional units or accessories, while selected starter packs include installation. Check each product page carefully to confirm whether installation is included or whether the product is supplied separately.
If you plan to install lights yourself, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure the power supply, fittings and location are suitable for outdoor use. Arrange qualified electrical help where needed.
What information should I provide when asking about installation?
To help us understand your project, include your postcode, a brief description of the area, the type and number of lights you are considering, and whether you already have an outdoor power supply. Photos of the garden and possible cable routes can also help.
